Engaging 2-minute videos to encourage joy in prayer

Let's face it - if you are like most people, prayer is a duty at best, a drag at worst. You sit in your chair, with your coffee, and your list... and your mind drifting away every few seconds. You need some joy!

Isaiah 56:7 says “I will give them joy in My house of prayer… and my house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

Joy, and prayer? Can it be? We at Austin House of Prayer join our hearty YES with countless Christians through the ages who have discovered that prayer is intended by God to be deeply satisfying. We are engineers, musicians, students, housewives, consultants ... learning to enjoy prayer.

Through the 56:7 Video Emails, we offer to you our real life experiences with prayer, our victories and struggles, our insights into praying the Bible, and our recommendations for essential resources.

We want to share ourselves with you, not a program or a book, but ourselves. We will train you to ground your prayer life in the Biblical prayers. We will demonstrate various models and methods of prayer, and explain why they are valid and effective. We will provide you with opportunities to dive deeper into Greek and Hebrew word studies. And we will offer you direct links to the books, songs, and other resources that have helped us grow in our prayer lives. All in videos that are two minutes or less!

Once every two weeks, an email will arrive in your inbox. It will contain four short (less than two minute) videos that can be viewed right on your computer. These videos will offer:
  • Increased knowledge - What is an "Apostolic Prayer", and how can you pray it?
  • Engaged emotions - How can you feel the emotions of God towards you?
  • Practical tips - What can you do when prayer is boring?
  • Stories that "demystify" prayer - How do we really "hear God" in prayer?
  • Patterns to copy - Such as a small group praying for their home churches & pastors

Testimonials

Loved it. Great messages.
I liked the length of the videos! I liked the variety of topics on the videos!
It's like a little magazine. Having four videos makes me feel like I am going to get a combination of 1 or 2 things that I am already disposed to learn about, along with perhaps a few videos that will stretch me in new ways or in ways I hadn't considered or had been reluctant to consider.
I've been thinking about both memorizing scripture and thanking instead of asking, so it was like God was saying "yeah, do that!"
On the whole, I feel like my spiritual life has received a dose of vitamins from the Body. Thanks, you guys!
It's really nourishing to see and hear wisdom from mature Christians who've walked with God for many years.
I liked the message of simplicity, and accessibility for human beings to meet with God.
I think the teaching about the two types of worship, contemporary and liturgical is helpful and needed. We need to see these as complimentary.
I appreciated that there was diversity of age in the group of people (and that Felipe mentions a different culture as well).
I enjoyed the clip of people actually praying Psalm 97. I liked this Ps 97 video because it didn't just talk about a certain kind of prayer--it simply demonstrated it. Getting to see real people really praying is like pulling a veil back and giving me a window into prayer styles that I might not be getting to experience in my own private and corporate prayer life.

The Four Videos

The purpose of the Interview video is to introduce you to a real person who really enjoys prayer. Their authentic struggles and victories in prayer will encourage you that you, too, can learn to enjoy prayer.

The purpose of the Prayer video is to show you a Biblical prayer in action, as well as introduce many different models for prayer. To help you make this Biblical prayer part of your prayer life, the Dive Deeper link gives you a Greek or Hebrew word study for the Biblical prayer.

The purpose of the Teaching video is to allow a seasoned teacher to explain the actual scripture prayed, or the type of prayer, or the method of praying used. You will gain understanding that will help you pray the same prayer.

The purpose of the AHOP Recommends video is to present a practical tip or a resource that has helped us to enjoy prayer. If the recommendation is a book, CD, or web site, there will always be a link so that you can obtain the resource for yourself.
